Privacy Policy

1Who we are

This policy explains how the developer of Firepot (“we”, “us”) handles information in the Firepot app for iOS (“the app”) and on this website. Firepot is a ration planner for expeditions — river floats, base camps, winter cabins and portages.

2Data stored on your device

Everything you create in Firepot is written to files inside the app's own storage on your iPhone:

• trips, day types, crew counts and menus;
• shopping lists, dry-bag layouts, cook logs and debriefs;
• custom dishes, favourites, norm tweaks, badges and ranks;
• campfire chat sessions and app settings.

We do not operate a server for this data and cannot see it. It is included in your device backups (for example iCloud Backup) under Apple's terms, if you have backups turned on.

3What we don't collect

Firepot has no account, no sign-in and no name field. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or precise location, and we do not sell personal information.

4The AI planner and campfire chat

Two optional features — Plan with Firepot and the Ask section (campfire chat) — send a request over HTTPS directly from your iPhone to OpenAI (api.openai.com, model gpt-4o-mini) and show the reply. There is no Firepot server in between. Before the first request, the app shows you a manifest of what will be sent and asks you to confirm.

OpenAI processes these requests as our service provider under its own terms and privacy policy. Please don't type personal information into the chat. You can switch the planner off in Rigging at any time; plans are then built entirely on your phone by the built-in rules, and nothing is sent. Chat history can be cleared in Rigging.

5Third-party services

The app includes the following third-party software kits. Where active, they may process technical and usage information about your device and how the app is used. They do not receive your trips, menus, notes or chat content.

If the app asks for permission to track, it will only access your device's advertising identifier when you tap Allow. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

6Notifications

Reminders are optional: a shopping reminder two days before a dated trip, an evening prompt on trip days, and a debrief nudge the morning after you return. They are scheduled locally on your phone — no push server is involved. Turn them off in Rigging or in iOS Settings → Notifications → Firepot.

7Why we process data

Where data protection laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on:

• performance of our service — to send your planner and chat requests when you use those features;
• legitimate interests — to keep the app stable (crash reports) and understand how it is used in aggregate;
• consent — for tracking via the advertising identifier and for the AI features, which you confirm before first use.

8Retention and deletion

On-device data stays until you delete it. Rigging → Data → Wipe Everything removes trips, pantry marks, chats, norms and badges; deleting the app removes all of its storage from your phone.

Data processed by OpenAI, Google Firebase and AppsFlyer is retained according to their own policies. We cannot see or retrieve the content of OpenAI requests. To ask us to request deletion of analytics or attribution data linked to your device, email us (section 14).

9Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, the UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. We do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising as defined by California law, except that attribution data may be processed by AppsFlyer when you allow tracking.

Because we hold no account data, most of your data is under your direct control on your device. For anything else, write to inbox@vaelunestill.site and we will respond within 30 days.

10Children

Firepot is a planning tool for adults leading groups and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will help remove it.

11Security

Your data is protected by iOS app sandboxing and your device's own encryption. Requests to OpenAI and the third-party services are sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we keep what we handle to a minimum.

12This website

This site has no cookies, analytics or trackers of its own. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address to deliver them (Google Privacy Policy). The contact form on the home page does not transmit or store what you type — to reach us, please email us directly.

13Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, note them in the app.
